The Getronics Virtual University (GVU)

The GVU is Getronics' learning and development portal, providing access to literally thousands of learning opportunities. They cover the full range of technical training associated with the Information and Communications Technology industry, and many other non-technical business skills. GVU includes:

  • opportunities to attain full professional certifications from Microsoft, Cisco and CompTIA
  • competency-based learning roadmaps that support Getronics' global service delivery programs and business strategies
  • role-based learning paths that include development centers for managers, sales people, project managers, and human resource professionals.
  • Similarly, many of the businesses that comprise Getronics worldwide have their own competency-based GVU development centers that offer learning opportunities tailored to the particular needs of those businesses.

The GVU offers much more than technical qualifications. Its programs deal with almost every subject that is important to the effective management of a successful global services corporation, including regularly-updated and highly interactive sessions on finance, sales, marketing, business strategy, general management, organizational psychology, employee relations, business economics, risk management and customer relations.

The GVU's programs are easy to use, and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week - and all Getronics employees have access. They are entertaining as well as instructive and use multimedia delivery technologies to make the e-learning experience engaging.

What are the benefits of using the GVU?

  • Accessible learning, everywhere, anytime, for all employees
  • Flexible learning: Employees learn at their own pace, in their own time or during a designated training slot, perhaps in an e-learning center.
  • Build your Getronics career ladder: Pick the courses that match the learning path for your current or desired job
  • Online mentoring for all students, 24 hours a day. Learn more.
  • Access to an increasing number of courses (currently about 3,000) including technical training, business skills training and interpersonal skills training. Learn more.
  • Books24x7 is a new online referenceware program that give you full access to thousands of technical and business books. Practically all new IT titles are available.
  • Search & Learn functionality - one quick search with GVU's powerful search engine allows you to find all available GVU resources: courses, books, mentoring, simulations, test preps, etc.
  • Express Guides are very similar to online versions of an ILT (Instructor-Led Training) student guide. Express Guides will be created over time to cover material (particularly Cisco and Microsoft certification content) while the actual courseware is being developed. Express Guides allow you to get the information you need more quickly.
  • Completion certificates: you can print a completion certificate for completed courses within the GVU platform.
  • Access to subject matter expertise through mentoring, discussion groups, articles and online seminars
  • And read the Getronics employee profile at right to let an actual GVU user tell you why.

What have you learned today? Our employees build skills and knowledge whenever they like on GVU.

Ellen, Project Manager, US Central Region

head shotOn GVU:
"To me, professional development is a #1 priority. I started off at Getronics in pure business, then went into project management. Getronics Virtual University's adaptability helped: You can look at the career path for your development, and pick and choose what [courses] you're interested in. I've taken business skills, leadership management, marketing, operations, e-business, some technology courses [in] databases and Internet security. I take the pure technical ones only to get a better understanding of the projects I manage. I like the structure; it's easy to follow.

I've done external training [with] live instructors. But I really like the online format because you can work around your schedule. It's easy to come back to: If you have 15 minutes, grab it [and] pick up from where you left off. The course content quality is very good. The course length is good; it holds your attention. The right amount of data is presented. I like the simulations. Each course lets you rate yourself. Throughout most courses, they interject positive quotes from different leaders. I keep a book of these motivational sayings.

They're really good all-around courses. It's broadened my understanding of our industry and our market -- how to face the challenges of the 21st century. I'd like to think when a challenge faces us, I have more to contribute. GVU makes me better prepared. Enhancing communications, conflict resolution -- these are things you can use every day.

It's such a broad spectrum, there's something in there for everybody. They're always adding courses, and that's super. It holds my interest. On the web page it tells you what new courses are in, and I like seeing that. And there's a whole library you can tap into. What they're offering us...it's excellent."
